"National Night Against Crime"
The National Night Event was held on Tuesday, August 3, 2010. The event was attended by two groups of homeowners between 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Members of the DeKalb County Tucker Precinct stopped out and spoke with the crowd, including Sgt. Bonds of ICP, Gang Task Force detectives, and Officer Williams (who is the officer sent out to take incident reports most often in Mainstreet). Also attending were Super 7 District Commissioner Connie Stokes and District 4 Commissioner Sharon Barnes Sutton.
Rick Harris and Patricia Prayor represented the Board of Directors, and members of the revitalized Crime Watch Committee (Norma Bennett, Sandra French, and Yvonne Montague) were in attendance. Also introduced, was 2010 Mainstreet Gerald A. Ferguson Scholarship Award recipient Arrionn Williams, who expressed sincere words of thanks and appreciation. She will attend Georgia State University in the fall and is in the honors program. Two items of information disseminated by Tucker Precinct was the monthly POAP (Patrol Often As Possible) form. This form is available by request at the precinct by calling (678) 937-5301. If a homeowner has a street they feel needs extra police patrol, they call the precinct and request the form; they fill it out, return it, and are put on the list for increased patrol of that street. He also reiterated the use of the Extra Patrol request line in the event of going out of town (also 678-937-5301). Finally, Officer Williams encouraged people to speak to any person you see on the street that you don’t know. If the person is there for nefarious means, it alerts them that you have seen them – and that means they can be identified. Please pass this information on to applicable neighbors.
Report crime incidents by calling 911. Keep Mainstreet Crime Watch informed directly at: crimewatch@mainstreetcommunity.org.
